ABOUT THERAPYThe pain caused by mental and emotional conflicts is real and the states of mind associated with this kind of suffering are often very debilitating.Psychotherapy looks at your problems in great depth, and acknowledges the internal struggles you may be having with powerful emotions, like fear, rage, jealousy and loss. This approach takes time, and demands a serious commitment from both therapist and patient. The frequency of therapy sessions can vary from once to three times per week, determined by clinical need and personal circumstances. The regularity of the sessions creates the best opportunity to work through your problems in depth. I can offer short-term focussed work, for up to ten sessions, where there is a specific problem to be addressed. This will need to be considered at an initial consultation. If you decide to start therapy it is wise to tell your GP. Sometimes there are physical conditions that can contribute to psycholgical difficuties. I am not a medical practitioner and therefore medical responsibility will rest with your GP. Psychotherapy can help: This is not an exhaustive list but is meant to give you some idea of the kind of concerns people bring to a psychotherapist |
